Cubs catcher Michael Barrett says: "All the teams have been pretty evenly matched this year. "I think at times you've seen all teams go through what we've been through, but we've been through it three times, where we lost [seven or eight] in a row. That's what's killed our season so far, those stretches of not being able to stop the bleeding."
True on those stretches being the death knell for the Cubs, but not so about every team weathering the same streaks.
Phil Rogers points out: While the Cubs have had three losing streaks of at least seven games this season, 1980 was the last time a Bobby Cox team lost as many as three games in a row.That's 25 years, which is simply amazing. Having Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz helped, but don't overlook Cox's steady hand in the clubhouse. His teams always seem to remain calm, seldom pressing.

I had to read that three times in Rogers' column--and I still didn't believe it. It's just too ridiculous, so I checked: the Braves lost four in a row as recently as May. That had to be some kind of misprint--maybe he meant to say it's been that long since a Cox team lost 7 in a row, which would make sense in the context of the paragraph. Maybe there's a correction in today's paper?
