CUBS ACQUIRE JUAN PIERRE

Didn't come across the wires yet but according to valued reader Schmidty (the best looking man on local TV), the Cubs have indeed acquired Juan Pierre from the Marlins. The story is also verified at cubs.com.

Pierre comes for a package that includes right-hander Sergio Mitre and Double-A pitching prospects Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto. Pinto was 10-3 with a 2.78 ERA in AA before getting shelled in 6 AAA outings. He was signed by the Cubs in 1999 as a 17 yr. old undrafted free agent. He's a 6'4" lefty. Mitre is a marginal prospect. Nolasco is the cream of this small crop in my opinion. A big righty, he was a 4th round pick in 2001 and will be 23 in a week. The Cubs moved him up to AAA in 2004, but he got rocked in 9 starts there. Last year, back in AA he was 14-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 27 AA starts. He had less hits than IP and more Ks than IP.

I hope this puts to bed the Milton Bradley talk. Apparently Dusty Baker went to meet with him. If the Cubs acquire Lugo and Huff they will likely be done. Lugo had a career year last year and I guess we would hope that Huff would pull a Hank Rodriguez and have a career year. Looking like:
  1. CF Pierre
  2. SS Lugo
  3. 1B DLee
  4. 3B Ramirez
  5. RF Huff
  6. 2B Walker
  7. LF Murton
  8. C Barrett
  9. Injured Starting Pitcher

Could be an exciting group.
