On to the morsels...
--The Chicago Bears have allowed only 68 points in 6 games. They are now the league leader in least points allowed.
--I beseech Charles Tillman to watch extra tape of Detroit's Mike Williams this week. Williams had a breakout game against the Browns yesterday with 5 catches for 95 yards.
--The Packers are 1-5. I could try and come up with some clever line about people from Wisconsin and Packer fans and their quantity of teeth or something, but leaving it at "The Packers are 1-5" is more than sufficient. In fact, I'm calling for this to be this week's statewide response. Whenever someone asks you a question, please answer with "The Packers are 1-5".
--Please spare us all the "But it hit Jermaine Dye's bat" garbage. Here's an idea--throw a strike. Buck and McCarver were all over it but Garner said it best--"That call didn't lose us the game." Exactly. Konerko's huge grand slam with 2 outs and then Podsednik homers off Lidge. That's why and that's it so take a bus trip to shutty town if you want to bring up that play.
--Transaction Analysis, July 31, 2004:
Chicago Cubs - Acquired first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz from the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Justin Jones; acquired shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, outfielder Matt Murton and cash considerations from the Boston Red Sox for Mientkiewicz, infielders Alex Gonzalez and Brendan Harris and pitcher Francis Beltran.
Chicago White Sox - Acquired pitcher Jose Contreras and cash considerations from the New York Yankees for pitcher Esteban Loaiza.
I'd say those were 2 pretty good moves, huh?
