ZONER'S MONDAY MORSELS

--Wouldn't it be nice if the Cubs could go 15-11 to end the season and finish... .500?

--Bears sign J.T. O'Sullivan. Sounds too much like P.T. Willis.

--Corey Patterson has yet to decide if he is going to play winter ball. Since June 1 he is hitting .163 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. For the season he is hitting .222/.259/.357. You could make a case that he is the worst everyday player in MLB. And yet, Matt Murton didn't start again yesterday. Work your tail off, hustle and play the game hard--you sit. Get demoted to AAA, prove the experience did nothing for you, come back and reek up the joint some more--you're a starter!

--On the south side, Brandon McCarthy has given up 0 ER in his last 2 starts, allowing only 5 hits in over 14 IP. He went down to AAA and worked on his change and it is paying dividends.

--SI has the Bears finishing at 3-13. Yet they have Carolina winning the Super Bowl. I see a few pundits have Carolina winning it all. Someone please write in and tell me what I'm missing. The Bears defense, special teams and running game will be better than Carolina's. They have a better QB. Hooray. If Orton goes out and pukes all over himself they can still win games. As for me, I'm taking week 2 for the Stephen Davis injury pool, and week 3 for the Deshaun Foster pool.

--I have to mention the A's & Indians. Even after dropping 3 straight, the A's are 1 1/2 out of first and the wild card. Cleveland is also 1 1/2 out of the wild card. They have 2 more with Detroit before playing the Twins at home for a set.

--Scoop Jackson continues to embarrass himself with a new article on Jeff Kent. You can guess what it's about. Scoop also shows off his quality research skills by saying about Kent, "That you're just a down-home country kinda fella and it's you that we don't know how to deal with." Jeff Kent was born and raised in? California. "Down-home country kinda fella"? What's that supposed to insinuate?
