WHY WOULD ALBERT DEFEND BONDS?

In case you missed it, Albert Pujols went to bat for Barry Bonds in a recent interview.

“I know he’s probably made some mistakes in the past, but come on, give the guy a break. Respect the numbers in the career he has put up.”

“People talk. That’s their job, to write something stupid without finding out,” Pujols said. “Like Barry, people are talking about him and they haven’t found anything out about the guy. They’re talking about making the guy a bad guy. Prove the point first and then you can write anything about it. But before, leave the guy alone.”

I'm not sure why Pujols would defend Bonds in light of the massive evidence against him. It makes me wonder if Albert has any skeletons in the closet.

It’s interesting to note (said just like Vin Scully) that Albert had only 19 HRs in 490 minor league ABs, all of them at the A level. He hit 37 in his first full MLB season.

I really hope that this statistical anomaly and his defense of Bonds are merely interesting to note and nothing else.
