BEARS DOMINATE GREEN BAY

All the worries of the preseason came to a screeching halt, with a hand to the face from Jerry Angelo that said "I told you so." Bears 26, GB 0.

His first 2 picks in the draft, Danieal Manning and Devin Hester making huge contributions. Who wants Leonard Pope now?

Des Clark showing up big time. Muhsin Muhammad showing that he is a stud receiver. So I guess you don't go from 16 TDs to bum status in one short year.

D-Lineman Mark Anderson, a 5th round Angelo pick, showing speed and moves, getting to Favre and sacking him.

The Bears DBs could have had 5 picks altogether. Favre was just throwing it up there for most of the 2nd Half.

And Rex Grossman playing like a veteran, getting the ball to his receivers and executing beautiful play-action.

But maybe the biggest star of all was sitting in a box high above the field. Ron Turner. He called a killer game. The mix was perfect. Granted, the Pack are brutal. But it was quite a win. You just know that Favre has all those retirement questions bouncing around inside his brain today. And it's courtesy of the Chicago Bears.

The Bears weren't deficient in any phase yesterday. They just need to stay consistent and stay healthy, the biggest task of all.

The main thing we learned yesterday was how bad Green Bay is. And that the Bears under Lovie have at least raised themselves to the level of Good Team--they were well-prepared, played hard, didn't beat themselves, beat the team they should. All that kinda stuff. Which is nothing to take for granted.

Not to be a downer, but considering the competition, I don't have any more certainty about the Bears as Super Bowl contenders. That should be the goal. We know they're better than GB, and probably Detroit, and most likely Minnesota. They should win the division. But it'll be a long time before we know if they can go much further.

They still struggled in the red zone. They didn't look good running the ball. Those things need to get better. And next week they're facing a team that actually has a good D-line.

So pardon me if I hold back on the applause.

OK. Are you nuts?

They just shutout a team on the road, had incredible special teams, the run was good enough that play action worked exceptionally and the offense looked like a fine-tuned machine.

Red Zone could have been better, and 20 other teams are saying that this week too.

And next week Lions are on the road at Soldier Field. They are an entirely different club on the road.

If you're not applauding now, it's likely you never will.

No, I'm not nuts, I'm just not gonna get all high about beating what could very well be the worst team in the league, and one that gave a miserable performance. I didn't say it wasn't good, it's just taking care of business.

And I don't care if 20 other teams are saying they need to get better in the red zone, those 20 other teams better be saying it--and doing it-- if they want to win the Super Bowl! Or otherwise they're not aiming high enough!

And I'm not saying they're not going to beat Detroit, who does suck on the road. But let's see what happens first, and then at Minnesota and v. Seattle especially, before we get all drunk on the kool-aid.

Forgive me for raising the bar and expecting victory.

If you can't get high about shutting out the Packers at Lambeau in the season opener, you are dead inside.

Favre has never been shut out.
Or should I say-
HAD never been shut out.
Roll that up and smoke it, pv.
The Monsters of the Midway are back!!
They want it, and they are going to get it this year.

That's a little rough, to say I'm dead inside. Again, forgive me for just being pleased with the win, instead of screaming Super Bowl.

Good to see there's nuance to the arguments on The Zoner. Just great.
