ZONER'S MONDAY MORSELS

Sweep! What could be better than a sweep of the Cards? Not much. Although with the weather finally breaking here in Chicago, I got the golf bag all set to go. Thanks to neighbor Tom who gave me a big bag of golf balls in the fall. They will be floating in a greenside pond at a course near you as soon as I can get out there. On to the morsels...

→ Corey Patterson isn't enjoying a quick rebirth in Baltimore. He's 1-10 with 3 Ks and no BBs. He might be hard pressed to find ABs if Luis Matos and Nick Marakakis keep hitting.

→ It started off with a bang for Frank Thomas on opening day, but it's been pretty quiet since. He is hitting .091, just 2-22. He went hitless in 3 games against Seattle.

→ Meanwhile, Jim Thome has 3 HRs and is hitting .333.

→ The Cubs bullpen threw 4 2/3 of shutout baseball in relief of rookie Sean Marshall to finish off the sweep. Wuertz, Dempster, Howry, Ohman and Eyre have yet to allow an earned run this season.

Sam Smith writes today about the NBA stars that could be playing for new teams next year. Included was this item, hopefully good news for the Bulls: Odd explosion for Pistons captain Ben Wallace, who declined coach Flip Saunders' attempts to put him back in the Friday loss at Orlando. No, apparently he wasn't intimidated by Darko Milicic. Wallace has those fits of pique occasionally, and Detroit media reports said he was cursing Saunders. A free agent, perhaps Wallace has had enough in Detroit and will want to move on.

→ Killer pics of some great office pranks.
